How to Play an Amorea flute
It's natural that once you have one of these flutes, you want some tips on how to play it. Well, to be honest, there's not much instruction that needs to be given, since this instrument is by nature very intuitive. There are no fingerings, or complicated techniques.
But to give you a basis to begin, just hold the flute in your right hand, covering the large 'palm' hole with the fleshy part of your palm, and perhaps a little of the beginning of each finger (the part closest to the palm).
While holding the flute in place with your thumb and the inner part of your hand closest to your thumb, lift your fingers and palm up off the palm hole to open the hole as much as possible.
With these two positions, opened and closed, you've established the extent of hand movement when playing the Amorea. When your hand covers the hole entirely, and you blow, you will be playing the equivalent of G3 on the piano scale. Now lift your hand completely off the hole, and you will be playing C#5 on the piano scale (C# above middle C).
Place your lips on the acrylic 'lip plate', with an opeining in your lips centered over the small horizontal slit near the top of the plate. It might take a little while to become familiar with where to place your lips to provide ample air flow through the slit.
As you blow and move your hand between these two extreme positions, you will cover the entire gamut of pitch in between. Listen as you do this, because it will be this process of listening as you move your hand, by which you will learn to carve out notes and then songs from this sliding scale.
This is the process of learning and then playing the Amorea flute. The only difference in process between the beginning learner and the experienced player is that the beginner thinks about what they are doing, and the experienced player plays from the heart.
